This year, the town of Teror will once again host in grand style the Gran Canaria annual festivity in honour of Our Lady of El Pino, Patroness of the Canary Islands Diocese, as we fully resume the celebrations following two difficult pandemic years. This is a double source of joy: on one hand, we leave behind the toughest moments of COVID-19; and on the other, we can fully share a festival that unites us through devotion and tradition.

Each September, the El Pino festivity brings us together to express our devotion to Our Lady of El Pino; to experience what our ancestors felt before her image; to reunite with family, friends and even with ourselves; to share our customs as Canarians and take pride in them; or simply to enjoy the many routes that  lead to Teror in September. 

We look forward to welcoming you with open arms.

We hope these festivities will renew our sense of hope and optimism that is so vital to our health and wellbeing. Let us embrace this celebration in a spirit of respect, sincerity, commitment and, above all, humanity. May taking part in these popular and religious events fill us with positive energy that we can share with others so that the true purpose of the festival may be fulfilled: to bring us greater happiness.

I would like to especially remember all those who are unable to be with us this year and whom we continue to hold in our hearts. This also includes the many emigrants who had to leave their homeland behind yet each September keep Teror close in their thoughts.

The programme for the El Pino Festival will provide us with many opportunities to share our traditions, faith and culture, with a fantastic line-up of concerts and activities over a three-week period. On behalf of Teror Town Council, we warmly invite everyone to take part in these events, which we have organised with much care and dedication. We also ask that we all continue to act responsibly with regard to safety measures, both civic and health-related.

Organising the El Pino Festivities is, without a doubt, a team effort involving many people, organisations and institutions. I wish to express my sincere gratitude for their work in keeping this celebration alive, even through difficult times such as the recent pandemic, which has not diminished our enthusiasm or our desire to come together once more.

I hope that the 2022 El Pino Festival will fulfil all promises and wishes and that it will leave us, at the very least, with lasting memories of joy.
